Defending the Biodiversity and First Peoples of our Region

We want to thank everyone who participated in A CHOCOLATE TASTING TO SAVE THE ORCHIDS.

Mathieu Brees gave a thorough and wonderful discussion of where chocolate comes from, and how it is made.  It was great to sample various chocolates, and to taste his latest creation – a dark chocolate made with the essence of lavender suffused into the cacao butter!

That will be something to look forward to in 2009!

In the meantime, you can visit their store, “ki’ Xocolatl,” located at Calle 55 # 513 between 60 and 62 Streets, right near Santa Lucia.  You can also visit their website for more information on their chocolate.  Please click on the image of the chocolate bar.

We also want to thank Dr. Andrew James of the Centro de Investigaciones Científicos de Yucatán, or the Center for Scientific Research of Yucatan, known as CICY.  Dr. James received the entire amount of donations generated by the event, and he reports that these funds will come in useful in the purchase of cultivars from Morelia for his program.

If you would like to make additional donations, or schedule an appointment to follow-up with Dr. James, you can contact him at CICY, by clicking on the image of the orchid.

Thank you once again for your support!
