Keeping them honest

In the summer of 2010 it became apparent that many organizations we thought were conducting their business in full compliance of the law were, in fact, not being honest.

To help consumers in Merida understand which organizations are making false claims, here is a “Keeping Them Honest,” modeled on Anderson Cooper of CNN.  And remember, the moment anyone supplies documentation to the contrary, we will happily correct it.

What’s our goal? readers have asked.  Simple: We want people to do whatever it is they want to do, but in compliance of the law.  Save the environment! Operate the best library in the world!  Educate people about health issues!  Take care of abandoned pets!  Help artisans expand their markets!  Yes to one and to all!

But do any and all of that obeying the law.  We don’t allow people to practice medicine without a license, and we can’t stand still and allow people to solicit donations from the public without accountability and government oversight!  We want a community of engaged, but honest, participants who respect the rule of law!

So to the following organizations ONE message: Get it together already!
